Two Teens Killed After Reckless Passing Attempt Leads to Deadly Lake County Crash
Lake County, FL — A tragic crash in Lake County claimed the lives of two teenagers Saturday evening after troopers say a 16-year-old driver attempted a dangerous pass in a no-passing zone.
The collision occurred on November 15, 2025, at approximately 6:05 p.m. on State Road 33 near Groveland Farms Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Vehicle 1, a 2008 Toyota Scion driven by a 16-year-old girl from Groveland, was traveling southbound when she attempted to pass another vehicle in a clearly marked no-passing zone. As she crossed into the northbound lane, she saw an oncoming SUV approaching and swerved back into her lane.
Investigators say the teen then lost control of the vehicle, causing it to rotate and slide back into the northbound lane—directly into the path of Vehicle 2, a 2021 Lincoln Aviator.
The SUV, driven by a 75-year-old Lakeland man, struck the right side of the Scion. The impact caused the teen’s vehicle to overturn.
Both the 16-year-old driver and her 17-year-old male passenger from Clermont were pronounced dead at the scene. FHP confirmed that next of kin for both victims have been notified.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts.
The driver of the SUV and his passengers—a 66-year-old woman, a 5-year-old boy, and a 6-year-old girl, all from Lakeland—were transported to area hospitals. Their injuries ranged from minor to serious, but all are expected to survive.
Troopers say the crash remains under active investigation.
