WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (iSkyNews.com) — The Polk County Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a tragic hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian during the early morning hours of Sunday, September 28.
The collision occurred between 1:39 and 1:41 a.m., near the intersection of 1st Street North and Avenue R NE in Winter Haven. Deputies say an adult female pedestrian was walking in the inside northbound lane of 1st Street North when she was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound.
The vehicle did not stop and is believed to have fled the scene, continuing northbound. The victim was pronounced deceased on site. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office has released a map marking the exact location of the incident and is now urgently seeking information from the public to help locate the driver involved.
"This was a senseless tragedy, and we are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything—no matter how small—to come forward," said a representative from PCSO.
