Apache Junction, AZ — Good news, AJ! The Apache Junction Police Department just landed a $20,000 grant from the Arizona DUI Abatement Council (with a high-five from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety) to help keep our streets safe and our celebrations drama-free.

What’s the money for? Overtime. But not the kind where officers are catching up on paperwork or binge-watching crime dramas. This grant specifically funds extra DUI enforcement during those peak party hours—when the grill’s still hot, the music’s loud, and someone’s cousin thinks they’re “fine to drive.”

“This grant enables us to strengthen our resources and personnel, allowing for more effective DUI prevention efforts,” said an AJPD spokesperson. “We’re grateful to GOHS for their continued support in our mission to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors.”

So if you’re planning to toast the long weekend with something stronger than iced tea, make sure your ride home doesn’t involve flashing lights and a breathalyzer. Designate a sober driver, call a ride-share, or summon that one friend who always leaves early and never drinks—this is their moment to shine.

Because let’s be real: DUIs are 100% preventable. And nothing ruins a perfectly good barbecue like a court date.

Thanks to GOHS and the DUI Abatement Council for helping AJPD keep our roads safe, our parties legal, and our patrol cars patrolling—not babysitting.
