KISSIMMEE, Fla. — This week marks eight years since Officer Matthew Baxter and Sergeant Sam Howard made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the Kissimmee community.
On August 18 and 19, 2017, the two dedicated officers were tragically killed in the line of duty. Their loss was deeply felt across Central Florida, leaving a lasting impact on both the law enforcement family and the residents they served.
The Kissimmee Police Department issued a heartfelt remembrance, honoring the men not only for their bravery, but also for their commitment to protecting others. “Their dedication and sacrifice continue to guide and inspire us. As we carry out our mission to serve and protect, we will always honor their bravery and selflessness and ensure they are never forgotten,” the department stated.
Both Baxter and Howard are remembered as devoted officers who represented the very best of law enforcement. Community members, city leaders, and fellow officers continue to celebrate their legacy through annual tributes and memorial services.
As the anniversary passes, their names stand as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day, and of the unshakable courage it takes to wear the badge.
