Fatal Collision Involving Lawn Mower Reported in Wildwood

Wildwood, FL — A tragic accident claimed the life of a 71-year-old Wildwood resident on the evening of August 23, 2025, after a collision involving a lawn mower and a pickup truck on County Road 222, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The incident occurred at approximately 8:39 PM, just west of Northeast 9th Street, as both vehicles were traveling eastbound. Vehicle 1, a lawn mower operated by the elderly man, was reportedly moving along the roadway without any lighting. Vehicle 2, a Dodge Dakota driven by a 36-year-old man from Ocala, overtook the lawn mower and struck it from behind.

Emergency responders transported the lawn mower operator to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

FHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including visibility conditions and roadway safety. No charges have been announced at this time.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of proper lighting and visibility for all vehicles—especially unconventional ones—on public roads.
