AZ Troopers Bust Dozens of HOV Cheaters — Including a Mannequin in a Hoodie and Chucky
Phoenix, AZ – Look, we’ve all been stuck in traffic and thought about sneaking into the HOV lane. But some Valley drivers took things to a whole new level — and got busted for it.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol Troopers recently ran two HOV enforcement operations on major freeways in the Phoenix area:
- SR-51: 40 traffic stops, 35 HOV citations
- SR-101: 62 traffic stops, 48 HOV citations
And while most drivers were simply caught riding solo, a few tried to get... creative.
👀 One driver had a mannequin dressed in a hoodie riding shotgun. Another used a creepy doll to try and fake their way into the carpool lane. Spoiler alert: it didn’t work.
“Nice try… but our Troopers see it all,” AZDPS said in a post about the unusual encounters.
These HOV stings happen regularly, especially during rush hours. And yes — the troopers have seen every trick in the book. So if you're thinking about dressing up a dummy for a quick shortcut... maybe don't.
Stick to the rules, and leave the mannequins at home. 🚗
