GILBERT, AZ — A quiet afternoon in a Gilbert neighborhood was shattered today when a pickup truck slammed into another vehicle before crashing into a home, causing major structural damage and leaving the residence unlivable.

According to Gilbert Police, the incident began just before 12:30 p.m. when the department’s dispatch center received a report of a hit-and-run collision near Higley and Guadalupe Roads. The crash into the home occurred around 1 p.m. near North Recker Road and East Libra Avenue. Officials say the impact was severe enough to compromise the home’s structure, forcing utility crews to cut power and remove the property’s electrical box.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuriesNo other injuries were reported. Preliminary information from Gilbert Police indicates that impairment may have been a contributing factor.
