Structure Fire Erupts at Gilbert Home, Destroys Garage and Damages Vehicles

GILBERT, AZ (July 23, 2025) – A large structure fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at a residence located on E. Harwell Street in Gilbert (Lindsay Rd. and Harwell Rd.), prompting a multi-agency response and over an hour of intense firefighting efforts.

At approximately 4:15 PM, Gilbert Fire & Rescue responded to reports of a fire behind the home. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and visible flames coming from a detached garage that was fully engulfed.

The on-scene battalion chief upgraded the incident to a working fire, bringing in additional support from Mesa Fire & Medical. Firefighters launched an aggressive attack, pulling a 2 1/2-inch hose line to battle the large blaze.

Officials confirmed that multiple vehicles were inside the garage at the time of the fire, and efforts were made to contain the fire before it could spread further. The fire attack lasted over an hour, with crews working diligently to knock down flames and protect the main structure and nearby properties. Incident command was officially terminated around 6:00 PM.

In addition to fire crews, the Gilbert Fire Investigator was dispatched to determine the cause of the blaze. City Utilities personnel were also called in to assist with infrastructure concerns resulting from the fire.
