Maricopa County, AZ (July 2025) — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is joining agencies across the country this weekend for Operation Dry Water, a national campaign focused on preventing impaired boating and promoting water safety.

Throughout the holiday weekend, MCSO deputies will be increasing patrols on local lakes and waterways, keeping a sharp eye out for boaters who are operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The annual initiative aims to reduce boating accidents, injuries, and fatalities tied to impaired operation.

Let’s keep our waters safe — never boat impaired,” MCSO stated in an official release. Deputies will also be engaging with boaters to educate the public on boating laws, safety gear requirements, and the serious consequences of BUI (Boating Under the Influence).

The Operation Dry Water campaign runs nationwide each summer around the Fourth of July holiday, when waterways tend to be at their busiest and alcohol-related boating incidents spike.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages all residents and visitors to designate a sober captain, wear life jackets, and follow all local boating regulations.

📍 Location: Maricopa County lakes & recreational waters
📆 Operation Dates: July 5–7, 2025
🚓 Enforcement: MCSO Marine Unit & Lake Patrol
