Fake Plate Leads Troopers to Major Drug Bust in Laveen
LAVEEN, AZ — What started as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a major arrest on AZ-202 this week, thanks to the keen eyes of Highway Patrol State Troopers.
On July 14, 2025, Troopers pulled over a Nissan Altima traveling northbound near Estrella Drive after discovering it was displaying a fraudulent license plate registered to a Buick. The stop uncovered far more than a plate swap.
The driver, whose name has not been released, had 14 license suspensions and multiple active warrants. He was taken into custody immediately.
While inventorying the vehicle, Troopers located over 100 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, small plastic baggies, and other drug paraphernalia. The passenger admitted ownership of the narcotics and was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia.
🚓 The outcome? Both suspects were booked into jail, and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety reminded drivers that vigilant policing and traffic enforcement play a key role in keeping dangerous individuals off the road.
