UPDATE: Suicidal Man Shot and Killed by Deputies at Mesa Apartment Complex

MESA, AZ – The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has released additional information following a deadly officer-involved shooting that took place on Sunday, July 27, 2025, just before 9:00 PM at an apartment complex located at 9860 East Broadway Road in Mesa.

According to MCSO, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a man making suicidal threats inside the complex. Upon arrival, deputies located the individual, described as a man in his 40s and a resident of the complex.

Deputies made contact with the man and discovered he was armed with a knife. Authorities say they gave the man multiple commands to drop the weapon. However, the man reportedly ignored those commands and began advancing toward the deputies while still armed.

Deputies discharged their service weapons, striking the suspect. Deputies immediately began administering life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No deputies were injured during the confrontation.

The MCSO Major Crimes Division responded to the scene and has since taken over the investigation. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending next-of-kin notification.
