Mesa, AZ - An early morning fire sparked by a mini fridge malfunction prompted the evacuation of a Mesa home and sent one person to the hospital with smoke inhalation injuries.
At approximately 1:30 AM on July 28, Mesa Fire & Medical responded to a 911 call reporting that a second-floor bedroom was on fire near the area of E. Fairbrook Street and N. Mayfair. Upon arrival, crews found no visible flames from the outside, but once inside, they encountered a light haze throughout the residence.
Firefighters quickly traced the source to a mini fridge located in the second floor bedroom. Investigators say faulty electrical wiring inside the fridge caused it to spark and catch fire. The unit was safely removed from the home, and crews ventilated the structure to clear the remaining smoke.
Both residents were safely evacuated. One individual was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Thanks to the rapid response by Mesa Fire & Medical and the support of Mesa Police, a potentially devastating situation was kept under control.
