When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the school already evacuated and emergency strobes activated throughout the building. Out of an abundance of caution, the gymnasium was also cleared as responders worked to investigate the source of the smoke.
Gilbert Police assisted at the scene to ensure safety and manage the evacuation. Gilbert Public Schools Maintenance was also requested to respond.
Fire officials later confirmed that the source of the smoke was an electrical issue involving the school’s water heater. There were no flames, only smoke caused by the electrical malfunction. The situation was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported.
The incident remains under review by maintenance staff and fire officials. Normal school activities were temporarily paused as a precaution.
