Gilbert, AZ – A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Wednesday evening near the intersection of N. Lindsay Road and E. Guadalupe Road, prompting a full closure of the intersection and a multi-agency investigation.
According to the Gilbert Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:00 PM on June 11, 2025, when officers responded to a welfare check for a male motorist reportedly slumped over behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped in the eastbound lanes of Guadalupe Road.
Upon arrival, officers found the man alone in the driver’s seat and attempted to make contact by knocking on the vehicle’s window. The man awoke and acknowledged the officers. As they asked him to step out of the vehicle, he reportedly produced a firearm, posing what police described as “an immediate and deadly threat.”
The Gilbert Police Department confirmed that the intersection remained closed as of 10:45 PM while the investigation is ongoing. The Mesa Police Department is leading the investigation as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT), which handles officer-involved shooting reviews in the region.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased pending next-of-kin notification.
Motorists are urged to continue avoiding the area and use alternate routes.
