🧬 Outbreak Details:
The outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) was linked to multiple illnesses between August 2024 and May 2025, and traced to FreshRealm facilities following routine FSIS testing. Though the tainted lot was destroyed, further traceback identified meals purchased by sick individuals as being produced by FreshRealm.
While FSIS continues investigating, they suspect contamination may be tied to one of the product’s ingredients.
👩⚕️ Who’s at Risk?
Listeria poses the greatest threat to:
- Pregnant women (risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, or fatal newborn infections)
- Adults 65 and older
- People with weakened immune systems
Symptoms may include:
- Fever, muscle aches, tiredness
- Headache, stiff neck, confusion
- Loss of balance and convulsions
Symptoms typically appear within 2 weeks, but can range from same-day exposure up to 10 weeks later.
🛑 What You Should Do:
- DO NOT eat the recalled chicken fettuccine alfredo meals.
- Check your fridge and throw away or return affected products.
- Clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that came into contact with the meals—Listeria can survive in refrigerators.
- Use a food thermometer when heating meals; internal temperatures should reach at least 165°F to kill harmful bacteria.
