Cub Fire Update 9:26 p.m.
The fire is now estimated at 186 acres. It is strongly recommended that the public avoid using Forest Service Roads 11, 1860 and 1861 as firefighters are utilizing firing operations in this area to contain the Cub Fire.

TONTO NATIONAL FOREST, AZ — Fire crews are actively battling a growing wildfire dubbed the Cub Fire, burning approximately 100 acres along the east side of State Route 87, just 7 miles east of Fort McDowell, within the Mesa Ranger District of the Tonto National Forest.

The fire was first reported around 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening, and rapid response teams have since been dispatched to contain the blaze. As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

  • 6 fire engines
  • 1 water tender
  • Incident command overhead
  • Roughly 50 personnel total

🚧 Traffic Impact:

The public is urged to drive with extreme caution in the area. Northbound lane restrictions are in effect on SR 87 from Mile Marker 205 to 207. Expect delays and visible smoke, especially during suppression operations.
