Shooting at Mesa Apartment Complex Leaves One Dead and One Injured

Mesa, AZ – A late-night shooting at a Mesa apartment complex has left one person dead and another injured, according to the Mesa Police Department.

The incident occurred just before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at an apartment complex located at 1439 S Val Vista Drive. Officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the area.

Upon arrival, police located two victims. One individual sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital. The second victim, however, succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mesa Police confirmed that multiple suspects have been detained at various locations in connection with the shooting. While the motive is still under investigation, authorities believe this was an isolated incident.

“The information we have at this time is preliminary,” a Mesa Police spokesperson said. “The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be provided as they become available.”

The identity of the deceased victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Officers remained on scene through the night gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses.
