GILBERT, Ariz. — A family made it safely out of a Gilbert home late at night after a fast-moving residential fire sent flames and heavy smoke through the rear and roof of the house.
At approximately 11:05 p.m., Gilbert Fire & Rescue and Gilbert Police responded to the area of Elliot Road and North Concord Street after receiving reports of a residential structure fire.
Initial dispatch information indicated large flames and heavy smoke were coming from the rear and roof area of the home, with one person reportedly still inside and attempting to get out.
Because of the conditions being reported, the Battalion Chief quickly requested a Working Fire assignment, bringing additional firefighters and equipment to the scene.
When the Battalion Chief arrived, crews confirmed that everyone had successfully made it outside the residence.Firefighters then began an aggressive attack on the fire as additional engine companies arrived to assist.
Ladder 251 was among the responding units and conducted roof operations. Firefighters cut into portions of the roof to help gain access to the fire and assist crews working to extinguish flames burning within the structure.
Video and images from the scene show heavy smoke surrounding firefighters as they worked near the home, along with significant fire damage inside the residence. Portions of the interior were left heavily charred, with burned household belongings, exposed framing and insulation visible after the flames were brought under control.
Despite the intensity of the fire, no injuries were reported and no one was transported to the hospital.
Preliminary information indicates the residence may be a total loss, although officials have not yet released a final damage assessment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
For the people inside the home, the outcome could have been much worse. While the property suffered extensive damage, everyone was able to escape safely.
