APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Apache Junction is bringing police officers, faith leaders and local families together this weekend for two community events focused on building stronger relationships in a more relaxed setting.
The events are part of National Faith & Blue Weekend, a nationwide effort that encourages law enforcement agencies and faith communities to connect with residents outside of emergencies and everyday police calls.
In Apache Junction, the Apache Junction Police Department will be joined by more than half a dozen local faith communities for two days of prayer, conversation, food, music and family activities.

Friday, October 9 — United in Faith: A Night of Prayer
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: Church of the Pentecost / Phoenix City Church
Address: 1180 E. Broadway Ave., Apache Junction
Friday night will focus on prayer, music and messages from local pastors, along with time for residents to meet and talk with officers and faith leaders.
A meet-and-greet will be held from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the main program.
The evening is designed to give people a chance to connect, talk and spend time together in a setting that feels less formal than a typical law enforcement interaction.

Saturday, October 10 — Community Picnic & Toy Drive
Time: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Mountain View Lutheran Church
Address: 2122 S. Goldfield Road, Apache Junction
Saturday’s event will be much more family-focused, with a community potluck, live music, a bounce house, yard games, community organizations, and police vehicles and demonstrations.
Families will also be able to take part in a toy drive benefiting local children.
Residents are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to help “Pack the Bearcat” for the Salvation Army ahead of the holiday season.
Participating faith communities include Mountain View Lutheran, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Love Gospel, Bridge Gospel, Desert Chapel, Church of the Pentecost/Phoenix City Church, and others.
The idea behind the weekend is simple: give residents, officers and faith leaders a chance to spend time together, have conversations and build relationships before there is ever a reason to meet during a crisis.
Both events are open to the community.
