APOPKA, Fla. — Women in Central Florida looking to learn basic self-defense skills can now sign up for a free class being offered by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

OCSO has opened registration for its upcoming Women’s Self-Defense Class, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the agency’s Sector I Substation in Apopka.

The two-hour class will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1111 N. Rock Springs Road, Apopka, FL 32712. Registration is required, and the class is open to adults ages 18 and older.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the course is designed for women who want to learn basic self-defense techniques along with strategies that can help them stay safe in everyday situations.

No previous self-defense or martial arts experience is necessary.

Experienced instructors will walk participants through the techniques step-by-step, making the class accessible to women who may be trying self-defense training for the first time.

Best of all, the class is free.

OCSO says space is limited and these classes can fill quickly, so anyone interested is encouraged to register as soon as possible.
