According to investigators, deputies responded just before 4:00 p.m. on July 12 to the 2600 block of Scrapbook Street after receiving reports of a shooting.

When deputies arrived, they found a two-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel immediately began life-saving measures before the child was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit responded to investigate the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate the child's family had traveled from Louisville, Georgia, to Central Florida and had just arrived at an Airbnb rental. Investigators say the family was outside the vehicle unloading and had not yet entered the home when the tragedy unfolded.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the two-year-old remained inside the vehicle while a four-year-old family member entered the car and discovered an unsecured, unholstered handgun. Moments later, family members heard a gunshot coming from inside the vehicle.

The Medical Examiner's Office and the Florida Department of Children and Families have been notified. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains active as detectives continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

This tragedy serves as a heartbreaking reminder that firearms should always be securely stored and kept out of the reach of children. Responsible gun storage can save lives and help prevent tragedies like this.
