NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — A vehicle crashed into the front of the Social Security Administration building in Pasco County Tuesday afternoon after the driver accidentally accelerated while attempting to park, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at approximately 2:36 p.m. on July 14 at the Social Security Administration office, 7601 Little Road.

Investigators say a 63-year-old woman from New Port Richey was driving a Kia sedan westbound through the parking lot when she attempted to pull into a parking space. Instead, the driver accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to crash through the front of the building.

Photos from the scene show the white Kia partially lodged inside the building after shattering large glass windows and damaging the exterior wall. Construction barriers and plywood were later placed around the damaged section of the building while crews assessed the structural damage.

The driver was not injured in the crash.

43-year-old woman from Holiday, who was riding as a passenger, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

No injuries were reported inside the Social Security Administration building.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
