POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A 36-year-old Frostproof man was killed early Sunday morning after losing control of his vehicle on US-27 in Polk County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. on May 31, 2026, along southbound US-27 north of US-98.
Investigators say the man was driving a Toyota Corolla southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled onto the shoulder of the roadway.
Troopers reported that the driver then overcorrected in an attempt to return to the roadway. The sudden maneuver caused the vehicle to cross back across the road and overturn.
During the rollover, the driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
