Fatal Crash Sparks Massive Fire at Major Citrus County Intersection

CITRUS COUNTY, FL — A tragic collision claimed the life of a Homosassa man early Wednesday morning following a fiery wreck at a busy intersection.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on May 13, 2026, at approximately 7:50 AM. An 85-year-old Homosassa man was driving a Chrysler Pacifica northbound on US-19. As he reached the intersection of US-98, he attempted to turn left under a red traffic signal.

The turn placed the Chrysler directly into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer traveling southbound, driven by a 48-year-old man from Ocala. The resulting impact sent both vehicles into the southwest corner of the intersection, where they quickly became engulfed in flames.

🚨 Tragic Outcome The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained only minor injuries and did not require transport to a hospital.
