Residents in unincorporated Osceola County can once again resume authorized outdoor burning activities after county officials officially lifted the burn ban that had been in place since the beginning of the month.
According to Osceola County officials, the burn ban was lifted effective May 20, 2026, following seven consecutive days of improved Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) conditions across the county.
The burn restriction was originally enacted on May 1 due to elevated wildfire concerns caused by dry conditions and heightened fire risk.
County officials said the decision to lift the burn ban was made in accordance with local county ordinance after the county-wide KBDI average showed sustained improvement.
The lifting of the ban applies specifically to unincorporated Osceola County.
While the restriction has been removed, fire officials are still encouraging residents to use caution with any outdoor burning, especially as Florida’s dry season can quickly shift conditions.
Improperly managed outdoor fires can still spread rapidly, particularly during breezy afternoons and periods of low humidity.
Residents are encouraged to check with local fire officials regarding any permitting requirements or restrictions before conducting outdoor burns.
