TAMPA, Fla. — A disturbing international human trafficking investigation has resulted in the rescue of an 11-month-old infant after authorities say a suspect attempted to facilitate the exploitation of the child.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the case began in October 2025 when FDLE agents launched an undercover operation targeting individuals allegedly involved in producing and distributing child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as CSAM.

During the operation, investigators discovered a social media account allegedly advertising a baby for sexual exploitation. FDLE agents made contact with the account holder, who was later identified as Huilzivan Alves da Costa, 29, of Mato Grosso, Brazil.

Authorities said Alves da Costa allegedly arranged to transport the infant from Brazil to Tampa for a planned meeting with undercover agents. However, on March 25, 2026, the suspect reportedly backed out before the exchange could take place.

Investigators continued working alongside Homeland Security Investigations to identify the suspect’s whereabouts and locate the child. HSI later coordinated with the Brazilian Federal Police, who were able to locate Alves da Costa.

On May 12, FDLE and HSI were notified that a search and rescue operation conducted in Brazil on May 9 successfully recovered the infant victim. Authorities said Alves da Costa was killed during that operation.

Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.

Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution had been designated as the prosecutorial authority in the case.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as the case develops.

If you suspect human trafficking or child exploitation, authorities urge the public to report tips immediately to law enforcement or the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

This remains an active investigation. Stay with iSkyNews.com for updates.
