ZEPHYRHILLS, FL — A tragic nearly head-on collision on Eiland Boulevard claimed two lives early Saturday morning, according to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

At approximately 4:37 AM, a Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Eiland Boulevard while a Hyundai Santa Fe was heading southbound. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan Altima entered the southbound lane south of Handcart Road, resulting in a violent nearly head-on impact with the Hyundai.

The force of the collision caused both vehicles to rotate before coming to a final rest within the travel lanes. Emergency responders confirmed that one passenger from each vehicle suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The deceased have been identified as a 4-year-old male from Dade City, who was a passenger in the Nissan, and a 40-year-old female from Zephyrhills, who was a passenger in the Hyundai.

The remaining occupants of both vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
