Bike Safety Stop Leads to Arrest of Wanted Man in Winter Haven
WINTER HAVEN, FL — What started as a routine safety stop turned into an arrest of a wanted man Tuesday night in northeast Winter Haven.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had been proactively patrolling the Dundee Road area following recent reports of bike thefts in the neighborhood. During patrol on March 31, a deputy observed a man riding a bicycle after dark without proper lighting, which is both a safety hazard and a violation of the law.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the cyclist, who was identified as 40-year-old Truston David Kunze of Winter Haven.
During the stop, deputies discovered that Kunze had an active warrant issued by the Florida Commission on Offender Review for a conditional release violation tied to felony battery and possession of methamphetamine.
Kunze was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center, where he was booked on the outstanding warrant.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says proactive patrol efforts in the area will continue as deputies work to address ongoing concerns, including recent bike thefts.
