HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A Saturday night commute turned into a chaotic scene of twisted metal and flashing lights after a driver failed to stop, triggering a three-car chain-reaction crash on Dale Mabry Highway.

According to investigators, the incident unfolded around 9:50 PM as traffic was stopped just north of Village Drive. A 32-year-old Orlando woman in a Jeep Compass and a 38-year-old Tampa man in a Dodge Challenger were both stationary in the southbound center lane, waiting for the flow of traffic to resume.

The situation turned dangerous when a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 31-year-old Tampa woman, approached the stopped vehicles from behind. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Toyota failed to stop, slamming into the back of the Jeep with significant force.

The impact sent a violent shockwave through the line of cars. The Jeep was propelled forward like a projectile, crashing into the rear of the Dodge Challenger. The accordion-style collision left all three vehicles with varying degrees of damage and sent a total of four people to the hospital.

First responders worked quickly to stabilize the victims at the scene. All three drivers involved sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals. Additionally, a 44-year-old man from Minnesota, who was a passenger in the Jeep, was also hospitalized following the impact.

While the current condition of the victims has not been released, the crash serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining focus in heavy traffic zones like Dale Mabry Highway. Authorities cleared the wreckage late Saturday night, and the investigation into the cause of the initial failure to stop remains ongoing.
