Five Animals Rescued After Electrical Fire Erupts in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. — Emergency crews from Rural Metro Fire, along with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a mobile home fire in Mesa on Saturday as strong winds helped fuel the flames.

The fire was reported at approximately 12:34 p.m. on January 10 at a mobile home located at 97th Pl. and Butternut Ave. in Mesa. According to the Rural Metro Fire Department, initial reports indicated the homeowner heard a popping noise coming from an electrical panel in a back bedroom, followed by heavy smoke building inside the structure.

iSkyNews.com spoke directly with Rural Metro Fire Department spokesperson Shawn Gilleland, who confirmed that two adults were able to safely evacuate the home prior to fire crews arriving. Officials also confirmed that five animals were rescued and are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters worked to contain the blaze amid gusty winds exceeding 18 mph, which contributed to the fire’s spread. By approximately 2:00 p.m., the fire was extinguished.

The point of origin appears to be the electrical panel in the back bedroom, according to fire officials. However, the cause of the fire remains undetermined and is still under investigation.

Fire officials confirmed there was significant fire damage to the back portion of the mobile home.

During the response, the iSky1 drone was deployed, capturing aerial footage that showed the extent of the fire damage from above.
