Hillsborough County, Florida — A moment of distraction led to a crash on State Road 570 late Monday morning, serving as another reminder of how quickly things can go wrong behind the wheel.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 11:05 a.m. on January 19, 2026, as a 52-year-old man from Palm Harbor was driving a Lexus SUV eastbound on SR-570.
Troopers say that near milepost 5, the driver removed his seatbelt to reach for an item on the passenger side of the vehicle. That brief distraction caused the SUV to leave the roadway, where it collided with the center median guardrail.
The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. No other vehicles were involved.

While the injuries were not life-threatening, FHP officials say the crash highlights how everyday distractions—whether reaching for an item, adjusting controls, or texting—can quickly turn dangerous at highway speeds.
Troopers continue to remind drivers to stay focused, remain properly restrained, and pull over safely if something inside the vehicle needs attention.
🚗 Bottom line: eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, and buckle up—every trip, every time.
