Mesa Police Arrest Teacher for Aggravated Assault on Student
Mesa, AZ – Mesa Police have arrested a 52-year-old teacher from American Leadership Academy (ALA) after an alleged assault on a student earlier this week.
According to Mesa Police, officers responded to the ALA campus near the 7000 block of Pecos Road shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, following reports that a teacher had physically assaulted a 14-year-old male student during a physical education class.
When officers arrived, they identified the teacher as Nathan Hansen, 52, who was reportedly involved in a confrontation with the student after the teen attempted to grab a phone from his hand. Police say Hansen allegedly shoved the student to the ground, grabbed him by the back of his hoodie, and dragged him across the basketball court, sliding him into the bleachers.
Detectives from the Mesa Police Special Victims Unit were called in to assist with the investigation. After reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, investigators confirmed the sequence of events and determined there was probable cause to arrest Hansen.
The student suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident, police said.
Hansen was later contacted at his residence, interviewed by detectives, and arrested on one count of aggravated assault by an adult on a minor under the age of 15.

A spokesperson for American Leadership Academy said Hansen was immediately placed on administrative leavepending the outcome of the investigation.
The case remains under review by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
