PHOENIX, AZ — A suspected drunk driver was arrested early Saturday morning after causing a two-vehicle rear-end collision on Interstate 17, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS).

At approximately 6 a.m., State Troopers responded to reports of a crash involving two vehicles on I-17. When they arrived, they discovered significant front-end damage to one of the vehicles, which had collided with another car in wet roadway conditions.

Authorities say the driver responsible for the collision showed several signs of impairment. A preliminary breath test revealed a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.164 — more than twice Arizona’s legal limit of 0.08. The driver was taken into custody at the scene for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported as a result of the crash, though both vehicles sustained considerable damage.

AZDPS reminds drivers:

“If you decide to drink, find a sober ride home. There is no such thing as ‘sleeping it off’ — only time can sober you up. That drink isn’t worth a life.”
