Volusia County, FL – Drivers traveling on eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) through Seminole and Volusia Counties should prepare for significant delays Thursday morning, as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced a series of daytime traffic pacing operations between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on October 16.

According to FDOT, the controlled slowdowns are necessary to allow crews to safely conduct work along the interstate. Law enforcement officers will pace traffic to speeds below 20 mph and may bring vehicles to a complete stop for short periods.

Motorists entering I-4 eastbound at the following locations should expect temporary closures or be prepared to follow law enforcement vehicles at reduced speeds:

  • Eastbound I-4 near Lake Mary Boulevard (Exit 98)
  • Eastbound I-4 south of Dirksen Drive, where traffic will be diverted:
    • Drivers will take Exit 104, turn right onto northbound U.S. Highway 17/92, then right onto eastbound Saxon Boulevard, continuing east to re-enter I-4.
    • Eastbound I-4 ramp to Interstate 95 (I-95)

Officials urge drivers to plan alternate routesallow extra travel time, and use caution in work zones. Traffic conditions will return to normal once the pacing operations are complete.
