Street Racer Crushed Between Big Rig and Barrier Wall in Fiery AZ-202 Crash
TEMPE, Ariz. (October 4, 2025) — A street race ended in destruction and disbelief Friday night after a high-speed crash left a sports car wedged vertically between a semi-truck and a concrete barrier wall on eastbound Loop 202 near the AZ-101 interchange.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), troopers responded around 7:30 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash involving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and a passenger car. The violent collision left the car folded and pancaked upright, with its front end completely crushed and rear wheels pinned against the truck’s trailer.
Miraculously, the driver — who authorities say was actively street racing another vehicle before the crash — sustained only minor facial injuries.
Multiple witnesses told troopers that the driver had been racing another, currently unidentified, vehicle just moments before losing control. After the impact, the at-fault driver was immediately detained and later charged with:
- Criminal Street Racing
- Reckless Driving
- Endangerment
Dramatic photos from the scene show the sheer force of the impact, with the vehicle appearing almost surgically wedged between steel and concrete — a chilling reminder of how fast street racing can lead to deadly consequences.
"This driver was extremely lucky to survive," AZDPS said in a statement. "Street racing and reckless driving put lives at risk — including innocent drivers just trying to get home."
Officials are reminding the public to #TakeItToTheTrack, not the streets. The investigation into the identity of the second vehicle involved in the race is ongoing.
