MCSO Investigating Sky-High Sneaker Thieves After Wild Rooftop Heist at Treasure Coast Mall
MARTIN COUNTY, FL — It wasn’t the Crown Jewels — but it sure looks like someone thought Nike boxes were worth their weight in gold. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a daring (and oddly athletic) rooftop heist at the Treasure Coast Mall, where thieves literally cut through the roof of the Champs Sporting Goods store and made off with hundreds of pairs of Nike sneakers.
According to MCSO, the suspects went full “Mission: Impossible” — slicing through the concrete roof, dropping into the store, and snatching up stacks of fresh kicks before hauling their loot back out the same way they came in. Once on the roof, the thieves bagged, tagged, and tossed the shoes off the edge to a waiting getaway vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they found a scene that could only be described as “Nike-pocalypse.” A giant hole in the roof, debris everywhere, and piles of red and black shoe boxes scattered across the surface. A few black trash bags of sneakers were even left behind — apparently, these burglars ran out of time (or cardio).
Detectives with MCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division are now piecing together the timeline of the break-in, reviewing surveillance video, and following up on leads.
