MESA, AZ — The Mesa Police Department has released additional information regarding a deadly collision involving a Mesa Public Schools bus and a passenger vehicle that claimed two lives Friday afternoon, November 6, 2026, near Southern Avenue and 80th Street.
According to investigators, preliminary findings suggest that the speed of the passenger vehicle may have contributed to the collision. Detectives emphasized that this information remains preliminary and that the investigation is ongoing.

The collision occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. near East Southern Avenue and South 80th Street in Mesa.
Mesa Police and Mesa Fire and Medical personnel responded to the scene following reports of a serious collision involving a school bus and a passenger vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that two adults traveling in the passenger vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger vehicle sustained extensive damage in the collision.
The school bus driver was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police subsequently confirmed that the driver remained hospitalized and was receiving medical care. The driver's current condition has not been released.
Officials confirmed that the bus belonged to Mesa Public Schools and that no students were aboard the bus at the time of the collision.
Following the crash, authorities closed westbound Southern Avenue at Hawes Road and eastbound Southern Avenue at Sossaman Road while emergency personnel worked at the scene and investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The identities of the two deceased victims have not been released in the information provided by authorities.
Although investigators believe speed may have played a role, police have not announced a final determination regarding the cause of the collision.
