93-Year-Old Woman Airlifted After Serious Crash on SR-52 in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO, Fla. (iSkyNews.com) — A 93-year-old woman was airlifted to the hospital Sunday afternoon following a serious two-vehicle crash on State Road 52 at the intersection of Old Tampa Bay Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. when the driver of a Ford Escape, a 93-year-old woman from San Antonio, was traveling west on SR-52 and attempted to turn left onto Old Tampa Bay Road. As she turned, her vehicle entered the path of an eastbound Tesla sedan, driven by a 28-year-old man from Altamonte Springs.
The Tesla struck the SUV on the passenger side, causing significant damage. The Ford Escape overturned and came to rest in the intersection.
Emergency responders from Pasco County Fire Rescue and FHP arrived on scene, providing immediate medical aid. The elderly driver was airlifted to an area hospital in serious condition, while the Tesla driver sustained minor injuries.
Photos from the scene show both vehicles heavily damaged, with troopers and firefighters blocking the roadway as investigators worked to clear the area.
Traffic in the area was temporarily delayed as crews responded and cleared debris from the roadway.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
