Superstition Fire & Medical crews responded around 11:40 p.m. and arrived to find one vehicle fully engulfed in flames and another with heavy damage. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, but three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth person was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Officials confirmed that one person was ejected from a vehicle during the crash. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office searched the surrounding area for any additional victims who may have been thrown from the wreckage.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has since turned over the scene to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) and ADOT Emergency crews, who are now handling the investigation and managing traffic. The eastbound lanes of U.S. 60 are completely shut down at Peralta Road, and all eastbound traffic is being diverted back westbound at the closure.
Motorists are advised to use Ironwood Drive South as a detour to reach the Santan area while the freeway remains closed.
