SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Scottsdale Police have arrested 35-year-old Matthew Dieringer in connection with the death of 67-year-old Frank Quaranta, who was found dead in his home earlier this month.
On September 1, Scottsdale police officers responded to Quaranta’s home near 68th Street and McDowell Road for a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers discovered Quaranta deceased inside his residence with obvious signs of blunt force trauma.
Detectives and crime scene specialists spent several hours processing the scene for evidence. Investigators later determined that Dieringer, who had been staying with Quaranta for several months, was a suspect in the case.
Citizen Tip Leads to Arrest
On the morning of September 6, a citizen spotted a man matching Dieringer’s description near 13th Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix and called police. Phoenix Police officers quickly responded and took Dieringer into custody at approximately 8:58 a.m.
Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc praised the teamwork and community involvement that led to Dieringer’s arrest:
“I want to thank the men and women of the Scottsdale Police Department who worked tirelessly on this case. Their persistence and dedication made this outcome possible. I am also grateful to the members of our community who stepped forward after seeing our news release and provided the information we needed. I also want to thank the Phoenix Police Department for their swift and decisive action. This was a true team effort, and it shows what can be accomplished when our employees, our community, and our law enforcement partners work together. Let this also be a clear message: if you commit a violent crime in Scottsdale, we will use every resource at our disposal to find you, and you will be held accountable.”
Dieringer was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on his outstanding probation violation warrant. Additional charges related to the homicide are pending.
