Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation at Reef Club Apartments in Kissimmee
KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A large-scale evacuation unfolded Tuesday afternoon at the Reef Club Apartments, located at 1915 Reef Club Drive, after a gas leak was reported around 12:30 p.m.
According to the Kissimmee Fire Department, residents were ordered to evacuate after the odor of gas was detected within the complex. A fire alarm was pulled, prompting an immediate emergency response from multiple agencies, including Kissimmee Fire, Kissimmee Police, and the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA).
Crews quickly established a command post on-site, and several medic units were dispatched as a precaution while firefighters and utility workers investigated the source of the leak.
Residents were seen sitting outside on stairs, sidewalks, and grassy areas as firefighters worked to isolate the affected area. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and after about an hour of investigation, the source of the gas leak was identified and secured.
Units from Kissimmee Fire and Kissimmee Police remained at the scene into the afternoon to ensure the area was safe and to assist residents returning to their apartments.
