Man Airlifted After Jumping from Window and Suffering Severe Lacerations in Poinciana
POINCIANA, Fla. — A 22-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after jumping out of a window and sustaining multiple deep lacerations from broken glass in the area of Grifford Road and Hampshire Road in Poinciana.
The incident occurred between approximately 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., prompting a large emergency response from law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel.
According to initial reports, the man suffered severe lacerations to the upper extremities and was combative with both law enforcement and fire crews at the scene.
Firefighters had to cut a chain on a fence to allow medics to leave the baseball diamond area in order to reach the patient.
AirCare 1 landed at Charlie Wheeler Park, where the patient was transported by helicopter to Osceola Regional Trauma Center for treatment.
Authorities later confirmed that the man was Baker Acted, a process under Florida law that allows for an individual to be involuntarily taken to a mental health facility for evaluation if they pose a danger to themselves or others.
This information was verified by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
