MESA, AZ — Mesa residents are being urged to prepare for a round of pop-up thunderstorms and potential localized flooding over the next 36 hours as a moisture surge from Hurricane Lorena pushes into the region.

City officials say six sandbag pick-up locations are available across Mesa to help residents protect their homes and businesses. The free sandbags are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

"While not everyone will see storms, those that do could experience brief but intense downpours capable of producing flash flooding," forecasters warn. "Low-lying areas and washes will be most at risk."

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather reports and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
