Lake Buena Vista, FL – Authorities in Orange County are investigating a bizarre late-night robbery at Disney Springs after a thief in scuba gear managed to steal $20,000 from a restaurant before vanishing underwater.
According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened just after midnight on Sunday at the Paddlefish restaurant, located at 1670 E. Buena Vista Dr. Investigators say the suspect slipped in after hours, entered the manager’s office, and confronted two employees. According to sources, the intruder forced the workers into a corner, tied them up, ordered them to shut their eyes, and sprayed a security camera before making off with the cash.
Within minutes, the suspect donned scuba equipment and leapt into a nearby pond, disappearing beneath the surface. Despite a search by deputies and dive teams, no trace of the thief was found.
Employees were eventually able to free themselves and call 911. Fortunately, no one was injured during the heist, and investigators confirmed the suspect never displayed a weapon. He is described as slim, about 5-foot-10, wearing tight clothing and a blue beanie.
Deputies are now working to track down the unusual suspect, whose movie-style escape has left even seasoned investigators stunned. The investigation remains ongoing.
