TAMPA, FL — A fiery crash involving a dump truck and a passenger sedan disrupted traffic and triggered emergency response along a key access route to I-4 and US-92 on Friday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred at approximately 9:20 AM on August 23. A 54-year-old Tampa man was operating a single-unit dump truck westbound on the access road from US-301 when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a median divider wall, overturn, and catch fire.
The violent impact propelled chunks of concrete into the path of a Ford sedan driven by a 21-year-old Lake Mary man, who struck the debris and came to rest along the highway shoulder.
Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, with the dump truck operator transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Emergency crews responded swiftly to contain the fire and clear debris from the roadway.
The crash caused temporary lane closures and delays along the westbound access route, with cleanup and investigation continuing into the afternoon.
FHP is investigating the cause of the crash, including possible mechanical failure or roadway conditions. No charges have been filed at this time.
