DUI Suspected in 2-Vehicle Crash at Greenfield and McKellips – One Injured, Intersection Closed for Hours

MESA, AZ (iSkyNews.com) — A violent two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Greenfield Road and McKellips Road in Mesa late Monday night resulted in one person seriously injured and another taken into custody, with DUI suspected as a factor in the collision.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:25 p.m., bringing a rapid and heavy response from Mesa Police and Mesa Fire & Medical.

According to Mesa Police, initial reports suggest one of the vehicles turned in front of the other, causing a collision. When iSkyNews.com reporters arrived on scene, they observed a chaotic emergency response, with multiple firefighters and police officers surrounding a black vehicle that had crashed into a metal light pole.

Two individuals were found on the ground — one screaming in pain, and another laying on their back, not moving. Photos from the scene show firefighters administering aid while a large police presence secured the area, including units from Mesa’s Street Crimes Unit and standard patrol.

The injured individual was placed in handcuffs and transported by EMS, though authorities have not confirmed whether they were under arrest at the time. A second individual, who was also treated on scene, was later seen performing a field sobriety test in front of officers. He ultimately failed the test and was taken into custody. Based on observations and statements, it appears impairment was a factor in the crash.

The black sedan suffered major front-end damage after striking a light pole, while a white SUV also sustained visible damage. Crime Scene Units were observed photographing evidence, documenting damage, and speaking with witnesses.

As of 11:00 p.m., the intersection at Greenfield and McKellips remained partially shut down, with cones and police vehicles blocking multiple lanes as the investigation continued.
