Mesa, AZ — A potential in-flight emergency triggered a swift response from Mesa Fire & Medical crews this morning at Falcon Field Airport, located at 4800 E. Falcon Drive.

At approximately 11:40 a.m., the Falcon Field air traffic control tower contacted emergency services to report a possible landing gear issue on an incoming aircraft. The concern: a “loose wheel” on a Bistro Light Sport Aircraft preparing to land with an estimated time of arrival just three minutes away.

Mesa Fire & Medical immediately dispatched Engine 208, the department’s Foam Truck, and a Battalion Chief to the airport. With unknown fuel levels and an undetermined number of people on board, responders prepared for a possible crash landing.

Thanks to the rapid coordination between the control tower and emergency crews, personnel were in place and ready should the situation escalate. Fortunately, the aircraft touched down safely without incident. No injuries were reported.

The pilot was able to taxi off the runway, and the aircraft will undergo maintenance to repair the faulty wheel before returning to the skies.
