POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A 62-year-old man from Lake Worth has died following a collision involving his motorcycle and a pickup truck Monday morning on State Road 60, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m., just east of US-98, as the man was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycleeastbound. Investigators say the motorcyclist was passing other traffic using the median safety zone when he approached a GMC 2500 truck towing a trailer, driven by a 21-year-old Winter Haven man, traveling in the same direction in the outside lane.

The driver of the pickup moved into the inside lane, at which point the motorcycle overtook and struck the rear of the truck. The force of the impact caused the motorcycle to become lodged under the vehicle.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, and the motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
