Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Mesa Leaves One Dead, Impairment Suspected

MESA, AZ — A tragic collision in Mesa Saturday night has claimed the life of a motorcyclist and left his passenger seriously injured, according to the Mesa Police Department.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:16 p.m. at the intersection of Extension Road and University Drive. Police say a vehicle traveling westbound on University attempted to turn left onto southbound Extension Road but failed to yield to an oncoming motorcycle heading eastbound.

The motorcycle was carrying two occupants—34-year-old Seth Hoffman and 34-year-old Brianna Hoffman. Both were transported to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Seth Hoffman was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Brianna Hoffman remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle, 59-year-old Danica Zunich, was not injured in the crash. However, police say impairment is suspected, and charges including manslaughter and aggravated assault are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation and toxicology reports.

Mesa PD’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
