BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ – Alert Arizona Highway Patrol State Troopers averted potential tragedy on Interstate 17 Friday evening, arresting a 16-year-old driver on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).
The incident began when dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle driving erratically and nearly colliding with other motorists on I-17. Troopers were quickly dispatched to the area.
Responding units located the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near Black Canyon City. Upon making contact with the driver, a 16-year-old male, troopers observed signs of impairment.
Following a field sobriety test, the juvenile driver was taken into custody and subsequently arrested for DUI. Authorities have not yet released the name of the driver due to his age.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) reminds the public of the extreme dangers of driving under the influence. "This incident serves as a critical reminder that impaired driving, at any age, has serious and potentially deadly consequences," said a department spokesperson. "We are grateful for the vigilant citizens who reported this dangerous driver and for the swift actions of our troopers."
